Shawna recently overhauled my Selmer MarkVI tenor, which I bought from Rayburn Music in the 1960s, while I was at Berklee in Boston, first as a student and then as a faculty member, which included being the alto saxophonist in the Berklee Saxophone Quartet with Joe Viola, John LaPorta and Gary Anderson. In those days, while still at Rayburn’s, Emilio was already the “go to” guy for saxophone repairs. In fact, we’d ask him to overhaul new horns before even taking them home. Although I left music for over 30 years for a career for medicine, I got back to playing some time ago and recently, along with Eric Gunnison, Tom Tilton and Andrew Rose, did the Denver Five Points Jazz Festival and have a CD (AFTER THE RAIN), which we recorded as a streaming event during the Covid shutdown. As for Shawna’s overhaul, it was terrific. She leveled the tone holes and fixed the excess play in several side keys in addition to a perfect job with the pads and felts. While it’s been 60 years since I took my tenor out the door of Ray Sternburg’s store (Rayburn’s), the horn has never played better. Also, since Emilio was the only person who overhauled my saxophones in the past, it was a huge relief to find Shawna, who made it like new again. Without reservation and with great enthusiasm, I recommend Shawna for your saxophone repairs.
